Project: United Birmingham Coca Cola Campus

United Birmingham Coca Cola Campus

Job Overview

New $330 million campus located off Interstate 20/59 in Birmingham, Alabama. The scope of work included 1,736 drilled shafts supporting a 150,000-square-foot multi-story office complex, a 300,000-square-foot warehouse, and multiple operational buildings, including bottling, Classic Foods, and vending facilities.

1. The Approach

Russo’s scope of work consisted of installing 1,736 drilled shafts on a former 105-acre steel mill site with challenging geology, including existing concrete footings, rebar, railroad tracks, steel debris, and karst rock.

2. The Solution

Through strategic planning and close coordination with the general contractor and other trades, Russo completed the deep foundation work in a manner that allowed concrete foundation crews to work concurrently behind and alongside Russo, accelerating the project schedule at the front end.

3. The Results

With extensive knowledge of the area and strong teamwork across all parties, Russo crews successfully navigated the challenging geology and numerous subsurface obstructions encountered on site. High production was maintained throughout the project, allowing the team to get ahead of schedule, accelerate foundation completion, and begin the steel scope of work earlier than planned. The project remains on track for the client’s move into the new campus in 2027.
